Background
Volvo AB wants to create a global development center for future transport solutions in Gothenburg. Over the next few years, most of the Volvo Group’s Gothenburg-based operations will be gathered in Lundby. The goal is to create a large area that has the feel of a campus. This means that the area will be more open with town square environments, where other partners can have their premises.
Assignment
In 2018 and 2019, prior to any detailed planning work, Efterklang was tasked with drawing up a forecast of Campus Lundby’s future noise situation and its impact on the environment. Forecasts have been made at an early stage of the project before any details on the exact design and installations of house bodies have been established. The investigation has been based on data for the current existing business activities in the area, which Efterklang has compiled by means of continuous checks and mappings since the 1980s. Two different design scenarios have been investigated; taking/not taking noise protection measures into account.
Result
The forecast has shown that it will be possible for Volvo to meet noise guideline values for Campus Lundby in the future. The assignment has also identified the need to take the location and design of parking garages into account, as well as the installations of additional buildings during the design phase.
Using the forecast model, Volvo has the opportunity to control the design of additional buildings and installations so that a good future sound environment within and around Volvo Campus Lundby is achieved.
