Background

The freight route through Bergslagen is a railroad line that is used by both freight and passenger traffic. The railroad line serves as a very important transport link connecting the northern Swedish railroad network with the southern Swedish and European railroad networks. In order to increase capacity, the Swedish Transport Administration intends to build double tracks between Hallsberg and Mjölby.

Assignment

Efterklang, and other areas of expertise within AFRY, have been working on developing specifications for turnkey contract for the Dunsjö-Jakobshyttan and Jakobshyttan-Degerön sections.

Efterklang’s undertaking has included the calculation of noise levels in the construction phase, the verification of previously proposed noise protection measures and the development of accompanying measures in the form of noise protection screens and embankments as well as the technical description of these.

The assignment was carried out between 2019 and 2021.

Result

Efterklang’s acousticians have worked closely with other areas of technology in the project in a successful and efficient manner. Thanks to long and wide-ranging experience, Efterklang has contributed to a more extensive picture of noise and vibration issues surrounding the expansion of the railroad. The Swedish Transport Administration has acquired a comprehensive basis as a foundation for a turnkey procurement.
