Background
Limhamn’s port area in Malmö is a classic industrial land where Cementa operated for 90 years. Since 2016, the old cement factory area has undergone a major transformation, from industry to a popular residential district – Limhamns Sjöstad, with homes, schools and shops.
JM is building Kv Bruket just 150 meters from the dock, and the new apartment building is planned to be ready in 2023.
Assignment
Fieldwork was carried out in connection with the construction, mainly sheet piling and piling, which generates vibrations that can pose a risk of damage to surrounding buildings. On behalf of JM, Efterklang was assigned to establish risk analyzes regarding vibration impact, crack inspections and monitoring vibration measurements on nearby residential buildings.
Result
Through Efterklang’s vibration monitoring, the contractor was able to ensure that the surrounding buildings were not damaged by any vibrations in connection with the sheet piling and piling. Installed meters were able to send an alarm if the vibration levels began to approach the set guideline values, which made it easy for the contractor to adapt and manage the work accordingly.
