Background
In 2015 the board of SCA made the decision to invest SEK 7.8 billion in the Östrand pulp mill. The investment known as Project Helios is SCA’s largest and remains one of the largest industrial investments ever made in Sweden.
Assignment
When industries plan expansions an environmental impact statement is needed. The statement identifies and analyses the anticipated environmental impact of a planned action and propose mitigation of the environmental effects. In this assignment Efterklang helped SCA identify and propose noise mitigation measures for the investment. In addition, we also provided support in the procurement of new equipment and machinery for the extension. For the building extension we carried out acoustic design.
Result
Verification of acoustic measurements and noise mitigation ensured regulatory compliance. The impressive result was an increased production rate with reduced noise pollution!
Project Helios was nominated ‘Project of the year’ in 2019 by Swedish trade magazine Byggindustrin.
