Background
In Malmö’s new district, Citadellsstaden, between cafes, shops, and residences, you’ll find the office building Aqua. The building’s visual and industrial design is a reference to the area’s history as an old harbor district. Aqua is designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle and is therefore certified according to the international standard WELL. The certification involves a holistic approach to how people are affected by the built environment and is based on medical and scientific research.
Assignment
Efterklang was commissioned by Skanska to design the acoustics in Aqua. In addition, Efterklang served as an advisor for Skanska Öresund as they are investing in health-promoting office buildings, where acoustics and sound design play an integral role. Efterklang’s Creative Director, Martin Hallberg, was featured in a Skanska article discussing healthy workplaces. You can read the full article on Skanska’s website (in Swedish).
Result
Aqua has achieved both health certification according to the international standard WELL and sustainability certification according to the world-leading certification system LEED. These certifications reflect the building’s commitment to providing a healthy and sustainable environment for its occupants.
