Background
Mobilia is a lively urban district in Malmö, offering a diverse mix of shops, restaurants, and services. Owned by property developer Atrium Ljungberg, the area is continuously evolving to provide tenants and residents with a vibrant cultural and service offering. In 2018, Atrium Ljungberg carried out construction work at the Mobilia property, including residential buildings and retail spaces. As part of the project, pile driving was carried out near existing commercial premises.
Assignment
Sheet piling and piling generate vibrations that can pose a risk to surrounding structures. On behalf of Atrium Ljungberg, Efterklang was commissioned to conduct risk analyses related to vibration impact, perform crack inspections, and monitor vibration levels in nearby buildings.
Result
Thanks to Efterklang’s vibration monitoring, the contractor could ensure that surrounding buildings remained unaffected by vibrations during the sheet piling and piling work. The installed sensors were designed to trigger an alert if vibration levels approached the predefined limits, enabling the contractor to adjust operations accordingly.
